- OSTEOARTHRITIS OF HINDQUARTERS - TAVIRA – Dog, Female, Age: 12 years, Breed: Undetermined -

After being diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of Hindquarters by a Veterinary Clinic, and despite already having first been medicated drugs, including NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory drugs), steroids dose anti-inflammatory and chondroprotective, when Tavira was seen for the 1st time the patient was unable to support the Left Hindlimb and supporting very little the Right Hindlimb, almost dragging on the ground with only the use of Forequarters.
Tavira also had loss of appetite, had a very weakened general condition and a "state of mind" and energy generally very low.
Acupuncture was made of simple selected points, was also made Electroacupuncture of other acupoints and moxibustion of two specified points.
The duration of each treatment was 20 minutes.
There was one session per week for 3 weeks, then there was one session with intervals of two weeks, then another session after three weeks, one session after 1 month and then there were two maintenance sessions after 2 and 4 months.
In total there have been 8 sessions in a range of 6 and a half months.

After the first session it was observed that the dog had more sparkle and more appetite, although her mobility still was not better.
After the second treatment session Tavira already begun to use more the hindquarters to move, despite still weak and uncoordinated movements. She already had the appetite of a "normal" animal.
After the next session she was moving all four limbs supported, despite limping slightly from Left Hindlimb.
In the following sessions and by the end of the treatment Tavira moves a lot without any difficulty in all the paws and well balanced, she always seems very "lively" and with enough appetite.
